The following year the DEA’s undercover team was transferred to the Special Services Group, which was to assume responsibility for providing undercover support for all police covert operations and standardising recruitment and training for covert operatives. Joe’s duties didn’t change; as far as he was concerned he still worked for the drug squad.

In 1997 Jessie switched to full-time criminal investigation work at Kogarah and began training to become a detective.
